چکیده

TOPIC: Chest Infections TYPE: Original Investigations PURPOSE: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a common pathogen, causing chronic and life-threatening infections in airways of patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). Multidrug-resistant P.aeruginosa (MDR-PA), an important cause persistent due to its ability form biofilms which display tolerance high resistance antimicrobial agents Traditional antibiotic selection tests take days fail select effective antibiotics against MDR-PA because not accounting for critical characteristics “real-life” infections. AtbFinder – novel culture-based test system addresses these realities by using principle selection, named “populational response”, has previously proved be highly selecting even MDR bacteria biofilms, delivering results 4 hours. Here we present findings from 3-y long microbiological monitoring persistence CF, that underwent treatment selected AtbFinder. METHODS: 30 CF aged between 18 63, confirmed infection, receiving prophylactic therapy based on were monitored over 2 years. Sputum was obtained during yearly check-up hospitalisations the presence assessed (i)AtbFinder or (ii) standard media. RESULTS: First analyzed effect eradication P.aeruginosa. By year 1 after switch use AtbFinder, noted 16 (53%) 22 (73%) out subjects who had infection respectively (p<0.001). We next studied how affected sputum load still having infection. The mean density following methods those baseline (year 0) decreased 3.2 4.1 log10 CFU/g at 2, respectively. Moreover able narrow-spectrum than 50% patients. CONCLUSIONS: Our represent first study evaluate performance account polymicrobial nature within routine diagnostic setting. Antibiotic optimization progressive CF. CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS: have demonstrated among more same ASTs. significantly improved clinical parameters, allowing reduction unnecessary broad-spectrum use. Antibiotic Susceptibility of Pseudomonas Aeruginosa Isolated from Cystic Fibrosis Patients

Abstract Background and Objective: Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an autosomal recessive genetic disease and Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the most common bacteria colonized in CF patients. Growing resistance of this bacterium to antibiotics now a day is a challenge of controlling infection in CF patient. In this study colonization of CF patients with Pseudomonas aeruginosa and antibiotic suscep...

Antibiotic strategies for eradicating Pseudomonas aeruginosa in people with cystic fibrosis.

BACKGROUND Respiratory tract infection with Pseudomonas aeruginosa occurs in most people with cystic fibrosis. Once chronic infection is established, Pseudomonas aeruginosa is virtually impossible to eradicate and is associated with increased mortality and morbidity. Early infection may be easier to eradicate. This is an update of a Cochrane review first published in 2003, and previously updated...

Outcome of Cystic Fibrosis in Patients with Bronchiectasis

Introduction: Bronchiectasis is a common problem in children especially under 5 years. Early diagnosis of disease and its causes could be useful in early treatment and preventing probable complications. This study aimed at evaluating the cystic fibrosis (CF) in patients with  bronchiectasis. Methods: In a cross-sectional study, 374 children with bronchiectasis were studied. The diagnosis was ma...

Isolation and Genetic Fingerprinting of Pseudomonas aeruginosa from Iranian Patients with Cystic Fibrosis Using RAPD-PCR

Sixty four Iranian patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) were studied for colonization with Pseudomonasaeruginosa. The patient’s age ranged between 2 months to 18 years old. Twenty one patients werecolonized, 15 with non-mucoid and 6 with mucoid strains of P. aeruginosa. The colonization rateincreased with age and the mucoid phenotype was only recovered from the older patients. A...
